What coop gameplay, between the platforming and shooting elements do you think will satisfy both the core Star Trek fan and the hardcore gamer? Venables: Tell us about the coop play mode, and about the interaction of Kirk and Spock. Our characters are still getting to know each other, as the game takes place shortly after the last film, but you may notice that certain banter between the characters is obviously inspired by the original series. This set of events is made possible due to the destruction of Vulcan in the last film and the repercussions of that event. Instead of meeting the Gorn Captain at Cestus III we now encounter the species for the 1st time on New Vulcan. Now that the crew’s destinies have been altered, that gives us the opportunity to do things with the Gorn and Vulcans that we couldn’t in the original timeline. Our game is canon in the new alternate timeline universe. We knew that the only way to do this was to have an engaging story that could appeal to all of these demographics. Miller: Our biggest challenge was designing a game that appealed to a wide audience AND satisfy the hard–core Trekker, both new and old guard. Was choosing to add to the alternate timeline story arc designed to reach for more recent fans of the franchise, and will it still satisfy the old guard of Star Trek fans? Venables: The placement inside the universe timeline is after the 2009 Star Trek film, but before the upcoming Star Trek: Into Darkness.
