This is EXACTLY what people had been crying out for. I would recommend this to anyone who likes FPSs.

The resulting package is addicting, polished, and downright fun. The basic premise of DOOM and its mechanics are simple, but they are fine-tuned to perfection. DOOM is a reminder that simplicity works. Simply put, this is the best FPS campaign I've played in years. Even later in the game when there are upwards of 50 high-level enemies at one time, DOOM remains grounded. Running around levels, double jumping away from trouble, glory killing lower-level enemies when you're low on health. Despite the seeming chaos of each encounter, this game requires strategy. Unlike any other current gen FPS, there is a sense of completion with DOOM when you get past a tough area. Dispatching enemies in DOOM is incredibly satisfying. The gun play is great, the enemies are varied and interesting (how cool are the Revenant?), and the "glory kill" component is entertaining and brutal. DOOM is, certainly, hectic at times, but the gameplay is fantastic. I had never played a DOOM game before and feared it would be too hectic, mindless, and absurd. As someone whose favorite FPS series is Battlefield, I was skeptical going into DOOM. The setup is simple (and simply ridiculous): a Martian research facility is attempting to draw energy from Hell to solve an energy crisis on Earth, when one of the scientists opens a portal to Hell, flooding Mars with a variety of demons. It is the antithesis of story-driven, a game that hearkens back to early '90s shoot-em-ups and thrusts you immediately into 10 hours of nonstop action.

DOOM, on the other hand, is loud and bare bones. A beautiful game with fully-wrought characters, a clear narrative arc, and a cutscene-heavy story. On one hand, you have a game like Uncharted 4, something incredibly cinematic and layered and ground-breaking. It is the antithesis of story-driven, a game that hearkens back to early Going from Uncharted 4 to DOOM was an odd experience. Going from Uncharted 4 to DOOM was an odd experience.
